It was such a pleasure being able to design and create these invitations for my cousin’s bridal shower last year. It had an Alice in Wonderland tea party theme, and that’s how I came up with the idea of making the invites look like tea bags that held actual tea leaves for the guests to brew and drink.
After a couple of prototypes, I created these invitations by printing on vellum paper, which allowed the tea leaves to show through. I then assembled the invitations similarly to how you would with an actual tea bag, using the tag at the end of the string as instructions for brewing the leaves. This was such an enjoyable project to work on and I’m so glad I was able to make it for my cousin and her shower!
Thank you, Nole, for sharing this on Oh So Beautiful Paper!
Can you please tell me what size paper you used for these? Thanks!
Hi Meredith! I used 12″ x 12″ vellum sheets, you can find similar ones at any Michaels. The final assembled invite is around 4.9″ x 6.8″ and it can fit in your typical A7 envelope.
Just Beautiful!
Thanks, Dana ♡!
Hi Joy,
This is a great idea! Where can I find a instructions to fold the paper into a tea bag shape? I’m planning a tea party bridal shower for my sister and this is a fantastic idea! Thanks for sharing!
one more question What margin sizing did you use when printing? Thanks again!
I printed on 12×12″ sheets and the margins were 0.7″ on the sides and 1.5″ on the top and bottom.
Thank you so much for getting back to me! I tried to find the 12×12″ sheets but could only find the letter size ones at Michael’s. Where did you purchase yours from?
No problem! I wonder if Michaels has stopped selling it? I can’t remember where I originally bought mine, but you can find a lot online like at this place: http://www.paperandmore.com/product/276/12×12-clear-white-vellum-paper-29lb-bond . It’ll end up being a lot cheaper than Michaels too, depending on shipping!
Thanks, Anchelaa! For the body of the invite, it’s actually assembled just like a mailer minus the mailer’s closing flap (https://img0.etsystatic.com/000/0/6109306/il_570xN.274420770.jpg). And for the top part of the tea bag I used these instructions as a guide, scroll to step 5: (http://www.abeautifulmess.com/2011/09/loose-leaf-tea-make-your-own-tea-bags-.html). I used clear double-sided scotch tape and mini staples to hold everything together. Make sure you score before folding, it makes things a lot easier and tidier-looking. I’ll probably make a post on how to make these invites next week. Good luck with yours!
Such a great idea! Love the font you used – can you tell me the name?
Thanks, Karen! The cursive font I used is Carolyna Pro (http://www.fonts.com/font/emily-lime-design/carolyna) and the rest is either Garamond or Register Sans :).
so pretty! were you able to post instructions? If so, please share link!! otherwise, some quick bullets would work too
